Giuditta Pasta
Giuditta Pasta was an Italian soprano opera singer. She was born in 1797 to an Italian mother and a German Jewish father. After studying in Milan, she had a slow rise to fame, with her first appearance in London in 1817 considered a failure. After taking time out for further studying, she returned to the stage in 1821, taking Paris by storm in the role of Desdemona in Rossini's opera Otello.

“But, after all, the true secret of her greatness was in the intellect and imagination which lay behind the voice, and made every tone quiver with dramatic sensibility.”
